چکیده

Many methods are now available for achieving selective inhibition of cellular division among a variety of microorganisms. A few reports are available presenting analyses of the composition of bacterial cells grown in the absence of cell division. It was shown by Nickerson and Sherman (1952) with Bacillus cereus that homogenous populations of greatly elongated cells (devoid of interior partitions) could be obtained by the magnesium-deficiency technique of Webb (1948) in crop yields nearly identical with normal, control cultures. Furthermore, the total nitrogen per unit weight was identical in filamentous and normal cells. The RNA3 content of filamentous cells of B. cereus was shown to be similar to that of normal cells and Webb (1953) has shown the RNA and DNA3 contents per "unit cell" of normal and filamentous cells of Clostridium welchii to be closely similar. In the latter work, results achieved with the Feulgen staining technique accorded well with the analytical data for DNA content, i. e., Feulgen positive elements were spaced at "unit cell" intervals along the length of a filamentous cell. In the work reported in the present paper, low concentrations of certain folic acid analogues are shown to inhibit division to a greater extent than they inhibit growth. Filamentous cells resulting thereby were without clearly demonstra-

Effects of Folic Acid Supplementation on Proteinuria in Type 2 Diabetic Patients with Overt Proteinuria

Objective: An association between high homocysteine levels and proteinuria in diabetic nephropathy has been shown. On the other hand, supplementation with folic acid lowers homocysteine concentration. We have studied the effects of folic acid supplementation on proteinuria in type 2 diabetic patients with overt proteinuria. Materials and Methods: Forty five (29 men and 16 women) type 2 diabe...

Effect of folic acid analogues on growth and cell division of nonexacting microorganisms.

Studies on the action of analogues of folic acid on microbial growth have been limited mainly to species which require an exogenous supply of folic acid or its derivatives for multiplication. They have been designed principally to determine the nature of the relationship between inhibitor and normal metabolite. The pertinent literature may be found in recent reviews (Martin, 1951; Petering, 195...

Interaction of dietary Pediococcus acidilactici and folic acid on growth performance, haematological parameters and non-specific immune response of finger barbel, Acipenser nudiventris

This study was conducted to investigate the effects of dietary Pediococcus acidilactici and folic acid (FA) and their combinations on growth performance, haematological parameters and non-specific immune response of Acipenser nudiventris. 210 individuals (initial body weight: 12.84± 1.53g) were fed seven practical diets: the basal diet as the control diet was supplemented with two levels of P <...

Anti-cancer and anti-immunomodulatory properties of novel Arteether in Folic acid-Chitosan-Fe3O4 composite nanoparticle for treatment of breast cancer

Goal: The potent anti-cancer activity of Arteether (ARE) has been the focus of many studies. However, the hydrophobic property of this drug limits its application. To increase the bioavailability of ARE, we formulated a nanosystem (NS) of folic acid (FA), chitosan (CS) and Fe3O4 for delivery of ARE against breast cancer. Material and Methods: The CS coated Fe3O4 was synthesized by co-precipitat...
